When the founders of Texas Tamale Company realized that the tamale vendor was becoming a thing of the past and that no gourmet quality tamale was being made for sale in the Houston area, they made their first foray into the tamale business. With their homemade recipes for “Lard Free” tamales and delicious salsas, they launched a street corner business. Over the years the business has grown from the familiar Tamale Cart into the present day incarnation of Texas Tamale Company. We now have over 100 products under several labels including our well-known Brazos Legends brand. Even though our tamales, Homestyle Chili and Chili Con Queso are now made in a state of the art USDA facility, we pride ourselves on maintaining our “Homemade Gourmet Quality”. The New York Times, Texas Monthly and the Houston Chronicle have all given rave reviews for our mail order tamales. Texas Monthly named us the best mail order tamale in Texas. Yes, we even ship our husk-wrapped delights to such remote outposts as New York and Boston. The product you are about to enjoy is the result of years of experimentation and refinement. Keeping your good health in mind, we choose to make our tamales with pure vegetable shortening (instead of artery clogging lard) and the highest quality meat/chicken and cheeses.
